El Área Natural Protegida Lago Baguilt o Baggilt se encuentra emplazada al sur del Parque Nacional Los Alerces, próxima a la ciudad de Esquel, y su creación tuvo como finalidad proteger un hermoso y tupido bosque andino integrado por especies de lengas, ñires y cohiues, que se entremezclan entre sí formando un bello paisaje de ensueño que nos remite y transporta a los orígenes de la vida.
En sus 15 kilómetros cuadrados de extensión, contrastan los blancos de las cumbres nevadas que rodean el lugar con los verdes de sus bosques encantados, que juntos hacen el lugar ideal para desconectarse y mimetizarse con la naturaleza.
Una Pintura Velazqueña
El Lago Baguilt propiamente dicho, se ubica a 1000 msnm y a los pies del Cerro Cónico, límite natural entre Argentina y Chile, que a su vez representa un gran desafío para experimentados montañistas que buscan alcanzar su cumbre.
Su origen glaciar lo nutre de sedimentos que le otorgan un color y brillo especial, en el que irradian las pinceladas de colores verdes y rojizos de sus bosques como los blancos de las nieves eternas. El lago es parte de la cuenca del Río Futaleufú, que desemboca en el Océano Pacífico a través del Río Yelcho, ya en territorio chileno.
En su longitud aproximada de 2,5 km y un promedio de 350 metros de ancho, se expresa la naturaleza vivaz que lo circunda, una paleta de pintor que aguarda el pincel que le de vida en un cuadro, un espejo que refleja el paraíso natural cordillerano.
